Not Enough Meat to the Plot

Riya and Abby are embarking on a European trip. They have been friends since the first day of school. However for the past year Riya has been living in Germany and Abby has been contending with her parents splitting up. They are getting older & having different world experiences. Can their friendship adapt and survive or will they just be too different?

The story is taking place with a background of ever changing European countries - England, Germany, Italy. This provided an interesting  background and an extra dimension to the story. Unfortunately I found most of the story quite shallow. Yes, there is plenty of discussion about their friendship and how it will go forward. However there is also a lot of discussion about boys, clothes, make-up and so on. I know that these things are part of a young person's life, I just felt that there was too much focus on these and not enough on the actual story. If you took away the focus on lifestyles and boys and removed the backdrop of European cities the book that is left is actually quite short. In my opinion there is not enough content surrounding the plot. However, I should point out that I am a few years older than the target age and many teenagers may enjoy this as a light read.

I felt the author sold the reader a bit short in this book. The concept was okay but not enough meat.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
