Nice Book - Not So Keen on the Story

This is a board backed book which I always feel are designed for younger

toddlers of 2.5 years and under. However, the story in this book is

quite complex and long for a child of that age. The story is probably

better suited for an older pre-school child.

The story is about Alan

the scary alligator. He has big scary teeth and goes about scaring the

jungle animals. That is until they discover that he has false teeth and

he looses them so he isn't scary anymore. Alan does get his teeth back

but promises to help the animals and not be scary anymore - though he

does still tell scary stories.

I didn't really take to the story in

this book. I didn't like the jungle animals laughing at Alan because he

had no teeth. I also didn't understand why Alan promised not to be scary

but still told scary stories which nobody minded - slightly confusing

for the younger mind. I would prefer children not to be taught that it

is acceptable to laugh at others for a physical impairment.

The book itself is bright with good drawings which are full page and full of action. I just didn't think much of the story.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
