Great Pop-Ups

This is a pop-up book which is ideal for younger children of approximately 14 months upwards. The book measures approximately 4.5" by 5" by 1.75" which is ideal for slipping into a bag, pushchair or car. Although the pop-ups are in quite firm card this is obviously going to be a potential for damage. Unfortunately that is just the way it goes with these types of book.

Each double page has a picture of something that goes - car, fire engine, tractor, plane, boat, fire engine and so on. These are quite simple pictures though some of them do have more than one level on the pop up. The names are written on the page in capital letters.

I have a bug bear about Americanisms in books designed for the english market. Is it really so difficult to make simple changes to children's books? Young children are struggling to master the english language without the confusion of a different word for something. In this book we have "Metro". Yes, I know that the word is used to describe the New York or Paris metro (for example). However the British call it The Underground. How hard would it have been to put Underground Train?

This is a generally nice book apart from the aforementioned niggle.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
