On the whole - unsatisfactory

This was an o.k. book - but it is very strange.  Not a lot seemed to happen, yet I still wanted to finish it.  The characters were, on the whole, an odd bunch and the main character seemed to swing wildly from being completely wet to being able to stand up for herself.  She was supposed to be an intelligent, well-educated woman, but she did make some foolish (even stupid) decisions and, very often, couldn't see what was going on under her nose (especially in regard to the Man in the Wing Chair).  The ending was somewhat unsatisfactory as the book just seemed to stop - although, as a reader, you were pretty sure how events would pan out after the writer had stopped writing.  It would have been better (in my opinion) to have finally tied up all the loose ends - rather than leaving a reader hanging and hoping that events would pan out how they should.  Not my favourite book of the year, but I did at least complete it.
