Lulu is anxious about her science report- so anxious it's given her a tummy ache! She falls asleep, to have an amazing dream- she swallows herself!! Emily Enzyme gives her an "incredible digestible" tour. In the small intestine Lulu and Abby dance the Acidophilus Hula. In the colon she meets Benny Bifidus, the King of Poo. How does she get back?! That is for you to find out! (hint: Stanley Stem Cell has something to do with it.)

Surprisingly Interesting

This is a

surprisingly interesting book about what happens to food between your

mouth and the remains leaving your body. It is done using a little girl

called Lulu who falls asleep with tummy ache and dreams that she travels

through her body and meets the various microbes on the way who explain

their different jobs.

I like the level of language used in this book.

The correct words are used - enzyme, intestine, villi - rather than

dumbed down versions. Their jobs are clearly explained and there is a

glossary in the back in case you need a quick check. There were some

words which I didn't think fitted in the book such as "Owie". A very

baby word for something that hurts & also very American. Do people

really use that word in the UK?

Some of this book is in rhyme and

some not which I found a little strange until I got used to it. I would

be happily reading in a sing-song poetry manner when all of a sudden the

text changed from rhyme to prose. It was fine when I got used to it but

a little surprising at first.

This is an ideal book for explaining

the basic digestion to a younger child. This may be particularly useful

if they had a long term stomach issue. The illustrations are interesting

& the text is, on the whole, good. I was a little surprised in one

illustration to see a piece of cake complete with candle floating in

Lulu's stomach - that may explain the tummy ache!

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
