Enjoyable read

There are a number of series about female investigators and this is as good as any, although I notice that the books do not appear to be currently in print in the UK. It reminds me of Sara Peretsky or Sue Grafton and is of that vintage (no mobile phones here).

Kat has the required chequered past and associated trauma and is a bit of a loner. She becomes involved in an investigation at the invitation of her best friend Charity who is an advice columnist. Of course once she gets her teeth into the problem Kat is not easily able to relinquish it and she pursues the mystery to its conclusion. She puts together the clues in a believable way and makes mistakes. She is a fast talking and tenacious woman and it is very enjoyable to follow her through the process.

This is a highly competent and enjoyable novel which overall is upbeat but which doesn't shy too far away from reality.
