Dated but readable

This book was written after the second world war and presents life in an English village with all the usual suspects including the local landowner, the school master, the pub owner, the poacher and the local policeman. This is the first of the George Felse books by Ellis Peters and introduces us to his teenage son Dominic who does the majority of sleuthing and happens to be around when all the major events occur.

A competent mystery if a little dated but interesting in the background and setting which reveals a world of which we rememeber very little.
